GETTING AROUND TAVIRA

Tavira is located in the eastern Algarve and is well-connected, with regular train services from Faro taking about 40 minutes and 2.5 hours from Lisbon. Buses also connect Tavira to other towns in the Algarve, making it accessible from various parts of the region. Faro Airport, located 30 kilometers (18 miles) away, is the nearest international gateway, with taxis, rideshares, and car rentals readily available for the short journey to the town.

Tavira is best explored on foot, especially its historic center, where cobblestone streets connect the town’s charming landmarks. For longer distances, bicycles are a popular option, and rental shops are readily available. To reach Ilha de Tavira, ferries operate year-round from Quatro Águas and seasonally from the town center, with journeys taking 10–20 minutes.

For exploring nearby towns or beaches like Cabanas or Santa Luzia, local buses provide reliable transportation, while rental cars offer flexibility for longer trips. However, the historic center has limited traffic access, making walking or cycling the most practical choice.
